Excerpts from Ebony:
“In exclusive talks with EBONY, three generations of runway icons, including Pat Cleveland, Beverly Johnson, Roshumba and Tyra Banks, share testimonies that affirm that Black models are ambassadors representing far more than the physical grace of Black people; they also represent our pride.
Gail O’Neill reflects on how big business has affected Black models, “When I started in 1985, the industry was far more integrated. I feel sorry for the Black girls working today. So many times there is just one brown face, maybe two, in the couture shows…I can’t even count how many brown girls I would see every time the collections came around.”
Fast forward to today, although many industry doors have closed, black models power forward and continue to make their presence known on the runway and in the pages of the glossies.
Our cover story, “Made You Look”, profiles six models rocking fall’s boldest trends, daring to represent the “ah-mazing” skin they are in. The diversity of Black skin is highlighted in the ten-page high fashion spread where we say hello to a new crop of models: Chantelle Winnie (IG: WinnieHarlow), Milan Dixon (IG: ModeloMilano), Fatima Siad (IG: FatimaSiad), Marquita Pring (IG: Marquita Pring), Diandra Forrest (IG: Diandra Forrest), and Samantha Archibald (ThinkThinkBrainBlast).
These trailblazers are paired with top design talent for a truly badass black fashion moment. Our “Black Designer Watch” includes Rocho Omondi, Charles Harbison, Stella Jean, LaQuan Smith and Mimi Plange.

Another highlight is “We Run the Yard”, announcing our 2015 Top Campus Queens. We profile 10 young standout Campus Queens from 140 Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCU). These ladies bring brains, beauty and crowns to the table and we are honored to present this amazing group of young leaders to our readers.”
