Haitian Italian designer Stella Jean always infuses her dual heritage
into her collections, marrying Afro-Caribbean prints with European
tailoring. For Fall 2015, Jean took a different turn, harkening to the
Himalayas, and splashing statement pieces with vivid hues, pom poms, and
South Asian inspired patterns.
Every piece was fashioned to make a serious sartorial statement. It would be hard to look away from a woman billowing into a room in a rainbow colored maxi dress, yarn adorned A-line skirt, or a salmon pink plaid jacket. Styled as it was in the show? Sensory overload. But quite a few pieces, when worn alone, could meld well into the international fashionista’s garde robe.
Coats are one of Jean’s strong points, and she served up chunky plaids, velvet lined silken options decorated with barbershop scissors, and trenches with pink embroidery.

The Stella Jean brand picked up some steam last year after being spotted on Rihanna and blogger Karen Civil. I believe stylistas flocked to Jean’s designs for their Afro-Caribbean infusion. I can see Jean not wanting to be pigeon holed, but the inspiration for this showing, and the result, seems a bit all over the place.
That said, there were a few wearable pieces. Someone daring must try the scissor adorned purple dress, swirling red maxis, and pencil and A-line skirts.
